In September 2016, Team LifeProof Freestyle Motocross star Luc Ackermann broke his femur while practicing in the foam pit at his home compound in Niederdorla, Germany. At this point Luc had almost mastered two new tricks, which he aimed to use to claim a place on the podium in Cologne, at the NIGHT of the JUMPs World Series.
This harrowing and devastating injury put a stop to his 2016 season, a monumental challenge which the young Team LifeProof athlete took on with remarkable positivity. He pushed his body to the limits over the course of a 6-month recovery period, with only one goal in mind – to make his return to Freestyle Motocross bigger and better than ever.
“I knew immediately that my femur was broken. Of course I was extremely frustrated. I had such a good season with several podiums at the NIGHT of the JUMPs series. I almost had two new tricks, I wanted to present at the NIGHT of the JUMPs in Cologne. But that’s the sport. We have to deal with injuries.”
- LUC ACKERMANN
Regardless of the circumstances, time, willpower or gruelling training required, Ackermann constantly drives himself forward past his previous limits.
Despite returning to his bike a mere 3-weeks before the competition Ackermann roared into the World Series arena on March 25th (Krakow, Poland) in fighting style. He landed a flurry of his best tricks with record style, successfully claiming 3rd place on the podium.
Ackermann began his journey as a freestyle motocross athlete at the tender age of 3 and by the age of 12 he had claimed a World Record as the youngest athlete ever to land a backflip on a motocross bike. Heavily influenced by his older brother Hannes Ackermann, Freestyle Motocross (FMX) is in his blood and it’s a focal point in his life. Luc will stop at nothing until he has reached the limits of the sport.
