This week we are still on an adrenaline buzz, catching up with Team LifeProof’s Brendan Fairclough. Arguably the biggest influencer and trend setter in the modern Down Hill and Gravity Mountain Bike scene. Known as the most well rounded rider around he can hang tough in the biggest free style events like Red Bull Rampage and still tear the downhill tracks apart.
We nabbed a chat with Brendan while he’s chilling, enjoying some rare downtime from the bike. This well-earned rest follows a wild 2018 World Cup Season, he claims,
Every now and then you just need to give yourself the chance to rest and recover – but not too long as I start itching to get back on my bike.
The last World Cup race marks the end of the season for majority of the riders but for Brendan there is so much more to come. He’s still more in the tank and excited for his upcoming events. First up, he’s travelling to the Audi Nines in Germany which is a freeride event. Described as a moonlike landscape filled with totally unique creations of epic proportions. Brendan is super exited to take part and go to the moon! The course is built by Brendan’s good mate Sam Reynolds. He is pumped to get out and hit some big jumps.
After this event Brendan is heading straight to the Red Bull Hardline in Wales. Red Bull Hardline isn’t an event for the fainthearted. Hailed as one of the toughest downhill mountain bike races in the world, the intense course, built by Dan Atherton, combines tricky technical downhill features with huge freeride-style jumps. Yes, hard by name, hard by nature. This will be Brendan ‘s last competitive race of the season.
That’s not it though, saving the biggest and scariest event of the year for last as Brendan heads to Red Bull Rampage. He’s stoked to have an invite again and as reality sets in on what he has to undertake, the excitement mounts.
Throughout all of these events Fairclough’s brain is constantly firing with new ideas and he can’t wait to get back behind the camera. It’s been a year and a half since he launched DEATHRGRIP with NETFLIX and he’s cranked up to film and work on some awesome projects.
Let’s hear from the man himself…
Q. TELL US ABOUT HOW YOU GOT INTO YOUR SPORT?
A. I got into my sport when I was at school and hanging out with the ‘older boys’. They all rode bikes and I thought that was super cool. I rode with them a lot and I think that’s what got me to where I am now. They pushed me. I always wanted to be as good if not better than them.
Q. WHAT TIP WOULD YOU GIVE PEOPLE STARTING OUT IN YOUR SPORT?
A. Don’t take it too seriously, after all you are just riding a bike!
Q. WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WHAT YOU DO?
A. I love the social side of the sport, everyone is so friendly and I’ve met a solid crew. Also, I’ve had the opportunity to travel the world. Literally the whole world, it’s amazing.
Q. WHO INSPIRES YOU?
A. I don’t really have a particular person that inspires me. I’m inspired by enthusiastic people that love what they do.
Q. DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER HOBBIES/PASSIONS?
A. Other hobbies would be enduro motorbikes. It has to be the best way to explore the mountains. They are fast, noisy and dirty. Suits me down to the ground.
Q. WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST ACHIEVEMENT TO DATE?
A. I have had lots of amazing achievements in my career, top 10 Red Bull Rampage finishes, World Cup podiums, my DEATHGRIP movie on NETFLIX... but the greatest one is still to come!
Q. WHICH LIFEPROOF CASE DO YOU USE?
Q. HOW HAS LIFEPROOF BEEN BENEFICIAL TO YOU?
A. Keeping my phone safe and sound. Cool company to grow with and they are supportive of my sport.
Q. TELL US ABOUT A TIME WHEN YOUR LIFEPROOF CASE HAS SAVED THE DAY.
A. Digging at Red Bull rampage. The phone spends most of its time in the dirt and dust. We play music there while we dig so my LifeProof FRĒ case on the phone is essential to keep us entertained. FRĒ is always there for those more hard core days!
Stay tuned and up to date with everything Brendan gets up to on his channel.
